The Association of Stony Lake Cottagers (ASLC) had reached the end of the useful life of its beloved Juniper Island Store building – the heart of the community.  The membership spoke passionately about preserving the heritage of the building and the Board embarked on a project to replicate the exterior as closely as possible while modernizing the interior.  Kawartha Lakes Construction was the successful bidder.  Throughout the build, KLC worked collegially with the architect, Association and Heritage Foundation to improve the quality of the project – both in design and material selection. The schedule and budget were paramount and KLC met both!  KLC’s attention to detail and quality of work were exceptional and they never waivered in their commitment to the project.  Not only did KLC impress the Association and Heritage Foundation, but the entire community – a job very well done!

Building our cottage was a dream we had for many years before sitting down with KLC to begin the process. Over the two years spent designing and building the cottage they worked very hard to educate us and to ensure that all of the details came together in a final product that will be a part of our family for many years to come. We appreciated that they understood how important the project was to us. Working with a company that could develop the design and budget and be responsible for the full construction was exactly what we wanted and we think the design build capability was part of what made for a final product that we are very happy with. My family started coming to Deer Bay in the Kawarthas in the 1930s but eventually sold our family cottage. When Mitzi and I had an opportunity to return to Deer Bay and build our dream cottage/retirement home we needed a builder we could really trust since we were 1,000 miles away in St. Paul, Minnesota. Kawartha Lakes Construction proved to be the right choice.

We had specific “Prairie Style” design ideas and they were able to put our thoughts to paper and come up with exactly what we were looking for. They were also able to build in stages (lower level for summer use, boathouse, major landscaping, and finally, adding the upper floors) to suit our timelines and financial needs. It was a long process, but KLC made the journey worthwhile. We consider the folks at KLC as friends more than business associates. I have highly recommended them to inquisitive neighbours and will continue to recommend them to anyone looking to build in the area.

What can we say; a cottage build project on time and on budget! The KLC team was highly responsive and respectful of all our questions and comments along the way. Our project manager Kevin Grubb was on top of the timeline and budget, while Dave Kellett worked tirelessly to meet our desired move-in date.

All of the other contractors and staff were great to work with: Christine Watts designed a functional cottage that met our aesthetic goals. Scott Wootton was accessible and there when we needed him to push contractors to meet our timeline. We continue to rely on KLC for ongoing projects and cottage maintenance, and are confident the service we will continue to receive will be high quality and responsive to our ongoing cottage needs.

We were able to rely on the knowledge and experience of the company for many product and design decisions. We worked very closely with the design team to develop our plans and we wouldn’t change anything about the final design.

I can’t think of an area where the company didn’t meet or exceed our expectations. The owner has assembled a team of talented and dedicated professionals who went above and beyond to ensure the process of designing and building our cottage was as seamless as possible. They are incredibly organized and always ensured we were aware of upcoming benchmarks and resulting decision making timelines. Every member of the team takes pride in what they do and is a pleasure to deal with.
